Introducing AI To My 67‑Year‑Old Thai Friend For The First Time

 Original

March 13, 2026

This morning, I taught Aoi=อ้อย, a Thai woman who I knew from someone Youtube channel a couple years ago. We have been good friends. I have taugt her English when she available and she helps me spread out my services, in exchange for her knowledge. Recently,She is 67 years old who have been living in the USA for 5 years but never communicate with others. Her husband does all. She starts to work as a part time for real and on her own about several months. She works in the kitchen mostly. Eventually, she decided to quit because the physical work made her sore and tired, but her leader did not let her go, instead , moved her to the lighter work. She switiched from cooking section to produce section, making sandwiches. I asked her if she speaks better English? She said, that is my issue part. She realized since the days she works and communicate with her manager and co-workers that they do not understand her English. It is very frustrating. She told that, I thought my English is good but I was wrong. Now, I introduced her to AI copilot and taught her to have her own as same as I did in the beggining. AI will help with her English. I also told her to set up MICO, cute balloon figure to use when practicing speaking. She said, that looks fun.

AI(copilot) fixed

This morning, I taught Aoi=อ้อย, a Thai woman who I knew from someone Youtube channel someone's YouTube channel a couple years couple of years ago.

We have been good friends. I have taugt taught her English when she available is available and she helps me spread out my services, in exchange for her knowledge.

Recently, She is 67 years old who have been living she turned 67 years old and has been living in the USA for 5 years but never communicate has never communicated with others. Her husband does all everything. (He does it all)

She starts started to work as a part time part-time for real and on her own about several months several months ago. She works in the kitchen mostly.

Eventually, she decided to quit because the physical work made her sore and tired, but her leader did not let her go, instead , moved her to the lighter work. She switiched switched from cooking section the cooking section to produce section the produce section, making sandwiches.

I asked her if she speaks better English? speaks English better now. She said, that is my issue part. “that is my issue.”

She realized since the days she works and communicate started working and communicating with her manager and co-workers that they do not understand her English. It is very frustrating.

She told that, I thought my English is good said, “I thought my English was good but I was wrong.”

Now, I introduced have introduced her to AI copilot Copilot and taught her to have her own as same as the same as I did in the beggining beginning. AI will help with her English.

I also told her to set up MICO, cute a cute balloon figure to use when practicing speaking. She said, that looks fun.

Note:

Ahh I understand you now — you meant your writing skill is about 50% correct and 50% incorrect, and after seeing the fixed version, you can clearly see which half is strong and which half needs improvement.

And yes — your writing in that story really is around that ratio:

✔️ Your “correct half”

  • your ideas flow naturally

  • your storytelling is clear

  • your emotional tone is warm and honest

  • your sentence structure is understandable

  • your vocabulary is good

  • your logic is easy to follow

❌ Your “incorrect half”

Mostly:

  • verb tense

  • missing articles (a/the)

  • prepositions

  • spelling

  • small grammar connectors

  • plural/singular

  • punctuation

This is exactly the pattern of someone who thinks clearly but hasn’t trained English grammar rules deeply. And this is the perfect stage for improvement — because your brain already has the structure, it just needs polishing.

Why this is good news

When your writing is 50/50 like this, it means:

  • your brain is active

  • you are not dependent on AI

  • you are producing your own sentences

  • you are learning from correction

  • you can see your mistakes clearly

  • you can improve fast

This is the ideal learning zone — not too easy, not too hard.

When “a couple of” is required

This form is used when “couple” = two (quantity). It always needs “of” before a noun.

Examples:

  • a couple of years

  • a couple of days

  • a couple of people

  • a couple of questions

This is the pattern you used in your story:

  • a couple years

  • ✔️ a couple of years

When “a couple” does NOT use “of”

This form is used when “couple” = two people in a romantic relationship.

    Examples:

    • The couple is happy.

    • A couple needs time together.

    • The couple lives in Delaware.

Here, “couple” is a unit (two people), not a number.

    Note:

You can’t use told in that sentence because tell and say follow different grammar patterns. Your original sentence didn’t match the pattern for tell, but it did match the pattern for say.

    🧩 The core difference

tell always needs a person after it. say does not need a person.

    tell = tell + someone + something

    • She told me the story.

    • He told her the truth.

    • They told us what happened.

You cannot use tell without a person.

    say = say + something

    • She said she was tired.

    • He said, “I’m leaving.”

    • They said it was fine.

    You can use say alone.

🧩 Why your sentence cannot use “told”

    Your original:

She told that, I thought my English is good.

After told, there is no person. So the structure is broken.

To use tell, you would need:

    • She told me that…

    • She told her friend that…

    • She told us that…

But your sentence doesn’t have a person.
