A Coffee Maker Saved Me From Midnight Hunger

I spoke Thai in the video

original

It was in December 2012 , we were in a Farmhouse style hotel. There were an old coffee maker and I did not remember if a refrigerator in the room but no microwave. There was a local minimart in the gas station where I got my noodle cup. I wanted to make the noodles but I could not think, how to make it that time without a microwave. I told my husband, then he grabbed a coffee pot and poured water in it. OH! why I did not think about this? I did not drink coffee and did not use a coffee maker in Thailand. We had an electric hot water which pushed the button and water came. I did not see in the USA that time. I saw at a Chinese store in Delaware.  Back to my noodles,  the water was filling into the glass coffee pot and my husband was pouring hot water into my noodle cup.  Yippy, I could enjoy my noodles now but no spoon, no chopsticks. I did not look for them at the minimart because I thought there were some in the room or I could ask from the counter as same as other hotels. Eventually, I saw none in the room and it was after midnight, I did not want to walk out of the room and walk to the counter in the next building.

It was a farm style, long rooms in the row as L shape outdoor. The frozen swimming pool in the center, outdoor and the smallest building at the front that was an office, checking counter.

There were tiny straws in a paper coffee cups. I grabbed them and used them as my chopsticks, It worked. I was sitting on the floor lean on the bed and enjoyed my noodles.

Ai(copilot) fixed

In December 2012, we were staying at a farmhouse‑style hotel. The room had an old coffee maker, and I can’t remember if there was a refrigerator, but there was definitely no microwave. There was a small minimart at the gas station nearby, and that’s where I bought my noodle cup.

Later that night, I wanted to make the noodles, but my mind went blank. I couldn’t think of any way to heat the water without a microwave. I told my husband, and he immediately grabbed the coffee maker and filled the glass pot with water. Then it hit me — why didn’t I think of that? I never drank coffee in Thailand, and I had never used a coffee maker before. Back home, we had electric hot‑water dispensers: press a button, and hot water comes out. I hadn’t seen those in the U.S. at that time, except once in a Chinese store in Delaware.

Back to my noodles — the water heated up in the coffee pot, and my husband poured the hot water into my noodle cup. Yippy! I could finally enjoy my noodles. But then I realized there were no spoons or chopsticks. I hadn’t looked for them at the minimart because I assumed the hotel room would have some, or that I could ask the front desk like in other hotels. But it was after midnight, and I didn’t want to walk outside to the office, which was in a separate building.

The hotel layout was simple: long rows of rooms in an L‑shape, a frozen outdoor swimming pool in the center, and a tiny front building that served as the office and check‑in counter.

I looked around the room again and found tiny straws inside the paper coffee cups. I grabbed two and used them as chopsticks. And surprisingly, it worked. I sat on the floor, leaning against the bed, and happily enjoyed my noodles.
