Yumi is a five‑year‑old Japanese girl. Her Japanese mother married her Thai stepfather, and because both parents work between countries, Yumi lives with her grandparents in Thailand. They adore her. They teach her Thai, and Yumi sometimes speaks Japanese back to them. She also has a Dalmatian puppy named Dotted, who is four years younger than she is.
Monday Yumi wears a pink dotted dress and green slippers. She walks to the garden with Dotted. Grandmother prepares breakfast outside, and Grandfather pours milk into Dotted’s bowl. Tuesday Yumi’s outfit is adorable: denim overalls, green boots, and a blue cap. Grandparents take her to the park. Dotted jumps excitedly when Yumi puts him on a leash. Grandmother drives while Grandfather plays music like a DJ. They sing many songs along the way.
Wednesday Heavy rain keeps everyone at home. Even at 10 a.m., Yumi is still in bed. Grandmother brings breakfast to her room. Grandfather takes Dotted to the bathroom and gives him a bath. In the afternoon, they all watch Yumi’s favorite TV show together.
Thursday Yumi, her grandparents, and Dotted leave early in the morning to go to the market. Both Yumi and Dotted are excited and full of energy.
Friday Yumi’s uncle arrives in the afternoon with a big gift — a giant doll. He also brings a present for Dotted. Both Yumi and Dotted are thrilled.
Saturday Yumi’s uncle takes everyone out for lunch at a restaurant.
Sunday Grandparents and Yumi go to the airport with her uncle. He is flying home. Yumi gives him a big hug and a few kisses before he leaves.
